Pastor Jim Silvey
Pastor Jim has pastored PBC for 25 years. Jim was raised in a strong
Christian home in Vista, California. He received Christ as a three-year old
and at the age of 12 surrendered to Christ to do whatever He wanted.
This led Jim to Biola University to graduate with a BA in Biblical Studies and
to Western Conservative Baptist Seminary in Portland, OR, graduating with
a Master of Divinity degree. During his schooling Jim served as Jr. High
youth pastor and intern at a couple of churches, as well as ministering at
summer camps and on a mission’s trip. But even more significantly, he
met and married his beautiful bride Lynda who serves with him in these
ministries.
Upon graduating from Western in June 1985, Jim and Lynda packed up and moved here to pastor a new congregation of 30 people. They brought with them a passion for teaching Gods Word, pastoring the church, reaching youth, music, missions, and team ministry. These continue to be true today. Pastor Jim started Fisherman’s Club for Junior age children, Lynda started Butterfly Club for Primary age children, they both started and continue to minister in the Middle School Youth group and Mountain Quest for Christ (outdoor VBS) and they started the High School Youth group, where Lynda still serves leading the youth worship team. (Lynda also serves on the church worship team.) They have led several short-term mission trips with the youth.
Under Pastor Jim’s leadership the church adopted by-laws, chose elders, bought a building to meet in, out-grew it, purchased property outside of town, and built a new facility there in 2008. But most importantly, souls have been saved and lives have been changed. Pastor Jim focuses on expositional preaching through books of the Bible. He is quick to point out that he is not perfect, but seeks to serve Lord Jesus as He enables him to, and is dependent on His grace. He is very thankful that Youth Pastor Billy Woods came in 2008 to help shepherd the growing church, which is over 250 people.
Pastor Jim and Lynda have two children, Jeremiah and Christina, who
they love and are devoted to. Jeremiah is a junior at Biola University
and Christina is a senior at Pinedale High School. Jim likes to hunt all big
game (as does Lynda and Jeremiah) and enjoys participating in a variety
of recreation and sports. Lynda enjoys music--playing several different
instruments and singing as well as teaching in her music studio. They both
enjoy traveling, around the state to their children’s athletic events and
when they can, around the world. But they always enjoy coming home to
wonderful Pinedale and the people they love.
